VULNERABILITY,POLICIES AND PROCEDURES IN RELATION TO WORKPLACE SECURITY

Allbusiness premises and facilities face a certain level of riskassociated with various threats maybe due to natural events, accidents or acts intended to cause harm for instance acts of terror.Regardless of the cause or nature of threat, management has to findways that mitigate effects of these risks in case they do occur.Vulnerability assessment is an element of the integrated riskmanagement system, which begins from threat assessment and follows aspecified path up to risk re-evaluation. A vulnerability assessmentlooks at potential impact of loss from an occurrence of a threat aswell as vulnerability of the premises to a threat. According to ChadKahl 2013, whether needed as a compliance or simply precaution, information provided by vulnerability assessments is indispensable in organization security.

Policiesare clear, concise statements of how an organization intends toconduct its activities, services or business. Procedures describe howthese policies will be put to action in the organization or business. It’s important as a business to understand and follow safety andhealth regulations in the work place.

It’sessentially the role of the organization to ensure the workplace isdoes not pose a threat to employees, customers and any other stakeholders. The outcome of the vulnerability assessment and the conceptof policy and procedure development is essential in risk analysis andtherefore improved work place security. Conducting a vulnerabilityassessment will help detect security exposures at the work placebefore potential attackers do. Early detection introduces theopportunity to address issues before attackers take advantage anddamage company assets and even reputation, according to Robert Boycein his paper Vulnerability assessments- the proactive way to secureyour organization. Policies and procedure on the other hand willguide on what should be done in event of emergency.
