Accordingto Jean Piaget, children undergo various stages of their mentaldevelopment. These help in the understanding of not only the way theyacquire knowledge but also their intelligence levels (Kail &ampCavanaugh, 2013). They are placed in four major categories thatinclude sensorimotor, proportional, concrete operational and formaloperational stages (Piaget, 1952). However, the first two aresubsequently divided into other subcategories that can be analyzedand explained using a matrix or chart as is shown below (Van Blerkom,2012).
